WPI's Global Projects Program

The Massachusetts Water Resource Outreach Center (WROC) was established in 2015.  The WROC is one of Worcester Polytechnic Institute's (WPI) 50+ project centers that exist in the United States and Internationally. We developed the WROC to assist Massachusetts municipalities with their water resource challenges.

Through the WROC, third year undergraduate students work in interdisciplinary teams to tackle a project at the intersection of technology and society. These projects are proposed by community sponsors (e.g., a watershed association, municipality, or environmental agency). Students work in teams of three or four, in collaboration with the sponsoring organization, to complete the project. The project occurs in two parts, a preparation course at WPI, and a project term. For the WROC, the preparation course takes place between January and early March. Students work full-time (~40 hours/week) on the project in the spring from mid-March through early May.
